What is synthetic quartz glass and what can it do?
Fused Silica (SiO2) is a synthetic molten, high purity, amorphous, non-crystalline quartz glass with exceptional properties. The material is made by melting very pure raw materials and is used for applications, that requirea very good thermal strength or an excellent transparency for wavelengths below the visible spectrum. Because quartz glass offers a remarkable transmissivityof ultraviolet wavelengths, it is often used for UV-applications. This very high UV-light transparency cannot be outperformed by any other industrial glass material. Due to its low coefficient of thermal expansion, quartz glass shows a very good thermal shock resistance. The excellent thermal properties enable fused silica to hold up very strong thermal loads and allow a very high operating temperature. Hence, the glass is often used for the fabrication of heat resistant windows, that must withstand high temperatures of up to 1000 °C without melting or breaking. Likewise, the superb chemical stability of quartz glass is one of the best. It is exceedingly resistant against saline solutions, acids and water and the high chemical durability of quartz glass against bases is top class. It is much better than most other glass materials can provide. Particularly the high temperature resistance and the high grade of purity, make quartz glass a perfect material for various semiconductor applications.
From raw glass blocks to quartz glass optics
Our quartz glass components are fabricated out of large non-crystalline glass blocks, called "boules". This pure raw fused silica material is ground, polished, shaped and surface finished according to customer's specifications, until finally any kind of optics have emerged from the raw glass block. If required, our UV-grade quartz glass can be selected for a low content of inclusions and/or a high refractive index homogeneity and purity. We are processing many different available quartz, fused silica or fused quartz raw glass materials with different properties from nearly any well-known raw glass supplier worldwide and we make all kinds of optics out of these different material grades.
In order to request a quotation for quartz glass slides, windows or polished substrates at custom dimensions, please use the button below. Please choose UV-grade for a transmission of >80% at 185nm. Choose sight glass grade for applications where ultraviolet transmittance and optical properties are of secondary concern or if you want to use quartz glass due to its thermal properties only.

Quartz Light Guides/Rods
Quartz rods have the ends optically polished. They act to steer and transmit light down the rod. For certain applications it may be necessary to diffuse or blacken the circumference to eliminate light scatter. Made in an extensive range of standard quartz rods with ends either polished flat or to a desired angle.
